Just scanned through an article at the New York Times about Google investing $10 million in geothermal power research. Interesting... maybe Bill's house inspired them. Its earth sheltered, and I believe uses some geothermal power.
On a larger scale, geothermal power can be used to heat water into steam, and spin turbines.
