Cold Weather

Since I run many computers in one of our offices, I'm always glad when winter comes around. It means cold weather, and no more air conditioning costs!

I hope to see a $50 to $75 reduction in my monthly electricity bill.

Its too bad computers make so much heat. Cooling them can get expensive! If computers get too hot, they fail, so I monitor the temperature of the machines I manage every four hours.

Further Energy Bill Reduction

Thankfully this months bill was only $85, but the weather has been warmer so the electric heater has been on less often. Also, the sales tax exemption was process so that saves a few dollars!

Electric Bill Reduction

I'm pleased to report that since I've been using a small portable heater instead of the complete office furnace, my electricity bill is almost $50 less. However, when reviewing my bill this month, I realized I'm getting charged sales tax. I have previously applied for and was approved for a waiver of sales tax because my business is so small. I'll have to refile the papers. Here's the details I posted about it earlier on a different website: Massachusetts Energy Sales Tax Exemption for Small Businesses Of cource Mass.gov changed the link target, here's the current linkl: S-13 Energy Sales Tax Exemption Form for Small Businesses

Electric Heat

Its been really cold here in New England lately, and it made an impact on this past month's electricity bill. The bill was up $50 to $150 from $100 last month. Ouch! So much for electric heat... my office uses a heat pump, which although I don't really understand how they work, I guess they are basically electric heaters when it gets really cold outside. I bought a mini-electric heater to warm up the individual office at a (hopefully) lower cost. UPDATE: I just found this heater at Newegg at a decent price (more than I paid at Home Depot), but its an oil radiator, which are supposed to be nice.
